Greetings,

About 189,910 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2026. The most diagnosed cancer among African American women and women of color are breast (32% of all cancers), lung (11%) and colon and rectum (9%).

African Americans have the highest death rate and the shortest survival of any racial and ethnic group in the USA for most cancer.  Racial disparity has widened in breast cancer in women due to lack of education and access to care, including screening and treatment.

My journey began on October 8, 2008, at 8:45 a.m.  I was informed by my pathologist that I had stage IV breast cancer, estrogen positive, with a tumor the size of a quarter in my left breast.  I received these results after a routine mammogram.  Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation were the next steps in my travels.  The road to healing and restoration was tough at times, but I knew that this situation was my itinerary and not my destination; for we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

The purpose of this journey is to encourage and educate those who are affected by and living daily to survive.  To champion for those who have faced, fought and are surviving.  To recognize the caretakers because many of them have sacrificed much during this journey with their loved ones.

Perhaps this isn’t your life today, but it very well could be and because we are still able to have victory over illness and disease; let us stand together, gain awareness and celebrate with those who are winning the battle with cancer.

We invite you to celebrate with us our Power in Pink Conference – “Victory from Crisis to Celebration”-  Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Tobie Grant Recreation Center at 593 Parkdale Dr., Scottdale, Ga 30079.  The time is 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Thank you,

Phyllis Elliott-Young, CEO
